Greetings From the Heart of it All!!!
Welcome to our web-herd. Presented
here is a virtual look at our mid-sized herd of quality Purebred LaManchas.
What exactly is the Celtic-Knot/Joyful-Morn type of dairy
goat? Well, we have many traits we strive to consistently
reproduce in our stock. I will take some time to tell you about
our breeding program and hopefully you will better understand where our
herd is coming from and where it is going....
We strive to produce animals with correct confirmation. Animals
that not only are beautiful to look at, but that are very functional and
will last a long time. To that end, we first start with feet and
legs. Using a crossing of our old Tombstone line with our old
Excel lines we were able to increase substance of bone and maintain good
feet with lovely hind leg width. As you can see on does like
Goldie, Sassy, Foxy we love a wide front end as well, giving our does
substance throughout.
Our animals are slower to mature and are frequently smaller, typier
does. That does not mean they are short coupled, but that they are
as a whole, smaller animals. This is not a defect to us.
They more then meet breed standard and are maintaining the correct
LaMancha breed character.
Our does are always freshened for the first time as 2yr olds.
Giving them the additional year of maturity that we feel they need.
That being said we see an average milk production of 6-8lbs of milk per
day in our first fresheners. Production in subsequent freshenings
increases to 10-12lbs a day with a steady lactation curve. We do
not want a lactation "cliff"!!!
Longevity is of great importance to us, we do not wish to replace does
on a routine basis.
Our animals are always a work in progress. If you have questions,
concerning our breeding program, feel free to contact us. We wish
to be as honest and straight-forward as possible.
PS....Many folks think that we only have cream colored
animals.
The truth is we love solid colored animals, nothing to distract
from their structural beauty. However, we get many colors,
patterns and even spots. We often give first choice pick
of our kiddings and most colored kids are placed quickly. |
